Staff Interview: Tim Cumming

August 26, 2025

Meet Tim Cumming, Associate Director here at Bluebox. Tim recently joined the Bluebox team, and to mark the beginning of his journey with us, we sat down with him to ask a few questions about his first impressions, what excites him most about the role, and what he’s looking forward to achieving as part of the team.

1.What’s your role at Bluebox, and what excites you most about stepping into this position?

I’m an Associate Director in the deal team. As a sector agnostic firm, I’m really excited about the diverse range of clients that I get to work with on a daily basis

2. Can you walk us through your career journey so far and what led you to Bluebox?

Prior to joining Bluebox, I spent seven years working in PwC’s Deals team across Australia and the UK. What really appealed to me about Bluebox was the opportunity to focus primarily on sell-side M&A and the firm’s emphasis on working with clients ahead of a process to help maximise both the value and saleability of their businesses

3. What do you enjoy most about working in M&A, especially at this stage in your career?

The work is fast-paced and dynamic, which makes every day unpredictable and exciting. Deals represent major milestones for businesses, and being able to advise clients through these moments is incredibly rewarding

4. What’s a professional milestone you’re particularly proud of?

Joining Bluebox!

5. What changes or trends in the M&A space do you think will have the biggest impact on the market over the next year?

With continuing inflationary pressures and macro uncertainty, I expect M&A to be as important as ever for strategic buyers, as they look for inorganic avenues to accelerate growth and unlock cost efficiencies.

Quick Fire:

  • What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?  Say yes to opportunities, especially the ones that scare you
  • If you weren’t in M&A, what do you think you’d be doing? If I wasn’t in M&A, I’d probably have taken a completely different path, likely working outdoors as a ski patroller or scuba dive master
  • Favourite city destination you’ve visited (and why)? I recently visited the Galapagos Islands, and the diversity of the wildlife was incredible. Diving with Hammerheads and Sea Lions will forever be a highlight
  • What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you? I was born in Hong Kong and moved to Australia during primary school

If you could have dinner with one person—living or historical—who would it be?
