Staff Interview – Elliot House

February 23, 2021

This month we interview Junior Analyst, Elliot, who has recently joined Bluebox and Velocity. One of our first virtual additions to the company. We find out his background, why he chose a career in Corporate Finance and a bit about what he enjoys doing outside of work.

  1. What was your background prior to joining Bluebox?

I was an Economics Undergraduate Student where I focused my degree on M&A and Finance, leading to an internship at Bluebox as a Summer Analyst in 2019. I also completed an internship at the Institute of Economic Affairs and spent 6 months as a pro-bono Strategy Consultant for a leading UK charity.

  1. What were your motivations behind choosing a career in Corporate Finance?

At a glance, Corporate Finance combines quantitative analysis with invaluable industry assumptions. This, and the ability to work with business leaders to achieve their optimal strategic outcomes, provided more than enough inspiration to begin my journey in M&A.

  1. What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?

In 2012 I raised £2000 for a local charity in Bratislava and spent 2-weeks trekking across Slovakia, spending a week restoring WW2 bunkers for the Slovakian National Army. Although some time ago, the entire process taught me some valuable lessons that have followed in my career ever since.

  1. What is the best advice you have ever received?

Perhaps cliché, but if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.

  1. How has it been taking on a new role remotely?

It has surprisingly been very easy. The team have been more than welcoming offering more than enough time for me to adapt, and I can’t say I miss the tube. With that said, previously interning at Bluebox has meant I was already accustomed to the team and to the Bluebox culture.

  1. What is the first thing you want to do post lockdown?

There’s currently an ever-growing bucket list of things to do, however seeing family and friends is definitely at the top.
