Chairman’s corner- Tech – Transforming the Way We Work

One of the things I enjoy most about the world of business is the way in which practices, approaches and technology are constantly changing and developing.

If you carried on doing the same things over and over again you would get bored very quickly and run the risk of losing out to rivals who embrace change and are prepared to evolve.

Of course the fundamental principles of business remain the same – understanding your customers, getting your margins right and providing a great product or service. But the way we all do business has changed dramatically with the remarkable advances in technology and there is every reason to believe that even more changes are just around the corner.

Technology has greatly influenced the way we respond, both in speed and can sometimes influence how we react and reflect in our response.  This means we have all had to become more flexible and adaptable to new approaches.

You can no longer get away with being complacent – you might be the very best at what you do and have the best product but that can change in an instant. Therefore you have to be aware at all times on what is going on around you in your chosen sector.

We now have constant access to data, which is a huge asset to people everywhere. Noticeably, business is no longer a 9-5 operation. The days of only being able to respond to clients in those hours are long gone thanks to smartphones and tablets. There have been occasions where I have literally completed big deals whilst being in another country – things like conference calls and edits to contracts can be done from any location and across any time-zone.

Going forward I see the world of business moving even faster, customer requirements becoming even more tailored and technology continuing to develop – which means greater opportunities, especially for entrepreneurs.
