Jack Storey – Staff Interview

July 3, 2019

  1. What was your background prior to joining Bluebox?

I was born and raised in York, and I studied in Manchester (and Austria) whilst at University. Following that, I continued the trend of moving progressively more southbound when I started working for Ford Motor Company in Essex. I worked at Ford in their Product Development team working on Investment Control and Analysis. Prior to that I held roles in their European Accounting team and Ford of Britain Financial Reporting team.

  1. What were your motivations behind choosing a career in Corporate Finance?

I was fortunate enough to study abroad in my second year at University over in Vienna. I took a Corporate Finance and M&A course which turned out to be something that really appealed to me. I love the fact that you get to work with so many different clients in different sectors, meaning that every day has something new to offer.

  1. What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?

Personally, I would say living in Vienna for a year. I didn’t know anyone, the language or the city – so everything was alien to me. It turned out to be the best decision I have ever made. I made great friends from all over the world and got to explore most of Europe too!

  1. Other than London, what city would you like to live/work in and why?

I would like to see what Toronto has to offer. I have been there previously, but only for a few days and I really enjoyed the feel of the city (and the food!).

  1. What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Right now, it would be looking forward to learning as much as possible about the world of Corporate Finance. Also, since I don’t live centrally, coming into London and feeling the buzz hasn’t lost its charm…yet.

  1. If you could be given a superpower for the day, what would you choose and why?

I would have to say time travel. I would go into the past a watch some of the greatest sporting events, historical events and satisfy my curiosity. Of course, since I worked at Ford, I’d like to go into the future and see how autonomous vehicles have impacted they way work and live. Also, it would be rude not to go forwards and write down some good investments and the EuroMillions winning numbers!

  1. Looking forward, where do you hope to be in your career in 5 years time?

I still see myself at Bluebox, hopefully fully CFA qualified and in a managerial role.

  1. We finish the interview and you step outside the office and find a lottery ticket that ends up winning £10 million. What would you do?

After heading to the nearest pub for a pint to settle myself down I would: make sure my family are comfortable, travel the world, go on holiday with my friends, treat myself to a good watch, study and play a bit of poker, and invest in some property.
