Analyst, Alex Runs The London Marathon

April 30, 2024

On the 21st of April, Analyst, Alex Walker, successfully battled his way through the London Marathon in aid of the Royal Free Charity.

His decision to hit the pavement was not just a fitness journey; it was about channelling support towards the ongoing treatment of some of the most vulnerable patients in the UK. Alongside his 16-week training plan, Alex has raised a total of £1,500 for the Royal Free Charity, who provide crucial financial and community support to NHS patients and staff alike. At a time when the NHS is so underfunded, Alex felt an increased sense of motivation to try to make as much difference as possible.

Despite a number of set-backs in his training, and little-to-no running experience, Alex completed the race, narrowly pipping 4 men dressed as Colin the Caterpillar to the line. Due to the plentiful support of Alex’s friends and family on the sidelines, found the race more of a physical challenge and less of a mental challenge than he expected, going on to confidently say that his legs definitely ‘hit the wall’ from the 22nd mile.

The London Marathon 2024 saw 50,000 runners embark on a 26.2 mile race, commencing in Greenwich, before trailing through the streets of London, over the infamous Tower Bridge, before finishing outside Buckingham Palace, a route that has seen little change in 1981.
