An Inside Look: Alex Walker

April 8, 2023

Meet Alex Walker, one of the newest additions to the Bluebox team. In this interview, we get an inside look into Alex’s background, hear about why he chose a career in corporate finance, and get a glimpse into what his goals for the future. So, without further ado, let’s get to know Alex Walker.

Can you tell us a bit about your background prior to joining Bluebox?

Having completed my masters in Finance & Investment at The University of Nottingham, I had some experience working at a Fintech Asset Management company as well as in Private Equity at Alchemy Partners, before joining Bluebox in November 2022.

Have you always wanted to work in Corporate Finance and if so, what drew you to the profession? If not, what other career paths were you interested in

For as long as I can remember I knew I wanted to work in finance but was not quite sure where exactly. I completed a number of work experience weeks at different firms and the aspect that I always enjoyed the most was interacting with various clients, which I find to be one of the most rewarding aspects of corporate finance. Studying a Corporate Finance module during my masters reaffirmed that this was the area of finance that I wished to pursue.

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

A typical day for me is very much dependent on the deal that I am working on and at what stage of the process we are at. This ranges the initial research into potential purchasers, and discussing which types of companies could find synergy gains through the acquisition of our clients, to putting together marketing materials and information memorandums to take the client to market. I am currently working on a number of live deals including the sale of a retail and consumer goods company, professional services provider, medical equipment distributor and a health technology firm.

What is one thing people don’t know about you that they would be surprised to find out?

The obvious answer for me here is that I have a twin brother called Nick, I am always taken aback as to how surprised people are when they find out.

What are some of your personal goals for this year?

To work on some successful deals from start to finish as well as begin my CFA exams.

If you could start your own business right now, what would it be and why?

Despite being a challenging economic climate for it, I would have to say starting a restaurant chain. I previously worked on deal in this space and found the acquisition of new sites and rolling out of the proven business model very exciting.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

“If a task takes under 2 minutes to complete, complete it immediately”

I think this is such good advice as it is so easy to procrastinate small tasks and let them build up.

If your friends were asked to describe you in three words, what would they say?

Fun, relaxed, empathetic
